Bagdogra Airport

Bagdogra is the only airport for North Bengal and Sikkim. It also serves as the most important airport for a large area including Bhutan, Lower Assam, Eastern Bihar and Eastern Nepal. The Airport acts as the hub of tourism activity in Eastern Himalaya. Bagdogra is located in the outskirts of Siliguri town, about 18 kms from town centre.

Major Airlines connect Bagdogra to major cities in India. There are direct flights to Guwahati, Kolkata and New Delhi in India and to international destinations such as Paro in Bhutan and Bangkok in Thailand. Domestic carriers such as Jet Airways, Indigo, Go Air, Spicejet, Jet Light and Indian Air fly from the airport.

Recently Night landing facility has been installed in the airport and night flights have also started. Over the years there has been major increase in the Airport infrastructure and number of flights landing here. The Airport was originally set up as a military airport with some civil flights allowed to land here. Slowly as the importance of the airport increased, the fighterjets were shifted to a nearby airbase in Dooars and Bagdogra primarily became a civilian airport. Even now the code for the Airport is IXB reminding all of its military past.
