Samdrup
Jongkhar - (280m/920ft)
Samdrup Jongkhar was an isolated corner of
the country and was connected with the other states of Bhutan
in 1965 when the road between here and Tashigang. This road
is the lifeline for this small hamlet.
The main attraction of this place is the busy
market. But
the journey along the road has many attractions. In this 6 hour
voyage one can see Sherbutse College which was built in 1978
and the temple of Zangto Pelri, built in 1978. The road passes
through a dense tropical forest of teak, bamboo and ferns. Samdrup Jognkhar can be used as an exit point
for the tourists as well. The Guwahati airport in Assam of India
is at a distance of 100 kilometers. Flights for the other parts
of India are easily available from here. |
