Holong Tourist Bungalow

Holong Tourist bungalow has a long history of catering to the VIP tourists and wildlife enthusiasts. It was the favourite destination for many long before Dooars entered the tourist map. During the 1980’s and 1990’s it was the favourite of the then Chief Minister of Bengal.

Orientation

The Holong bungalow is located in the core area of Jaldapara National Park. From Madarihat take a south bound road inside the forest. Drive inside the forest for about 8 kms to reach the Bungalow. On your left you will find an open ground which is separated from the Bungalow by a small stream. On the other side of the stream in the open ground is the location of a salt pit, a salt pit is the source for essential minerals for the wildlife. Forest animals visit the salt pit almost every evening and leak at the pit. This makes Holong an ideal place to watch the wildlife. The 1st floor balcony of the bungalow is fitted with spotlight which makes it the ideal spot to watch wildlife in its natural habitat sitting in the comfort of your room. Rhino, Elephant, Indian Bison, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Boar are the regular visitors and can be watched from almost anytime during the day or night.

Elephant Ride

Another popular attraction of Holong is the elephant ride inside the forest. The ride itself is a great attraction especially for younger people, in addition the elephants are more flexible than a motor Jeep in taking you to the odd corner of the forest. However elephant rides are booked only in the previous night and are always high in demand. Guests staying at Holong do get preference for the Elephant ride though. You can also take a Jeep safari which will take you to a few watchtowers in the grassland of Jaldapara.

The Bungalow

The Holong Bungalow itself is a very old construction with large comfortable rooms and toilets. The government staff here are habituated in dealing with VIP guests and the service standard is much better than most other government accommodation. There is only one bungalow with about 8 rooms.

Availability and Booking

Holong Bungalow can be booked directly from West Bengal Tourism website or through the authorized tour operators of West Bengal such as us. A few rooms are especially reserved for VIP tourists and can be booked only through official channel to the DFO. Room availability throughout the year is a big issue here.

Nearest Railhead: Madarihat, Alipurduar junction.

This is a picturesque banglo. In a staning location. Salt pit arround the lake are good attracton for wilds animal, so you can get a chance to see them just accross the lake.
