Jorethang is an important trading town and transport hub of South Sikkim. It is located by the Rangeet River at a relatively lower altitude and the weather here is relatively warmer. Jorethang is locally referred to as Naya Bazar meaning New Market, a name quite appropriate to the place. The town is located on the banks of Rangeet river. The river here acts as the boundary between Sikkim and West Bengal.

The town does not offer much in terms of tourist attraction and most tourists prefer to use Jorethang as a transit point before going to more attractive destinations nearby.

Within the town, the Bridge over Rangeet is a local attraction. The cantilever bridge and its surrounding is visited by locals as well as tourists and the area acts as the main promenade of the town. One may also take a walk on the road besides the river or spend some time on the river bank while in town.

Although the town itself does not have a lot to offer to the tourists, there are a number of tourist attractions around.

Darjeeling, one of the most important tourist town of the region, is just 25 kms from here on the other side of the river. Namchi on the other side is just 21 kms. Baiguney, the location of Club Mahindra holiday resort, is just 3 kms from the town.

Within an hours drive from Jorethang you can reach a number of attractive places such as Hilley (for trek to Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary), Zoom, Chakung, Gelling, Chisopani and others.
