Rasikbil is a large lake on the Eastern Dooars area. The lake and the forests surrounding it is famous for birds including migratory birds and waterfowls. The area is declared as a Bird Sanctuary and is protected by the forest department.
Even if you are not into Birding, you will find the serene environment of the forests and the lake quite enticing. Your accommodation can be arranged in the forest guest house where inside the Sanctuary. There is a dormitory of the forest for accommodating tour groups as well. The watch tower at Rasikbil is the ideal place to spend time during sunset and sunrise. Boating on the lake is not allowed.
Just a couple of minutes walk from the forest office there is an area for preservation of wild life. The area has a deer park and a crocodile rehabilitation centre. Cross a footbridge over the lake to reach the leopard rescue centre. There is also an Aviary, a python house & a Tortoise rescue centre.
If you intend to visit Coochbehar but do not want to stay in the main town, Rasikbil can be a good choice. The Coochbehar town is about 40 kms or an hours drive away from here. From Coochbehar town drive towards the west following the National Highway 31 for about 25 kms till you pass Tufanganj. Couple of kms ahead of Tufanganj is the Haripur crossing, here you have to leave the highway and take the left road for about 12 kms to reach Rasibil.
Alipurduar town and Buxa forest area is also not very far from here. The distance is about 45 kms and takes about an hour and a half to travel. From Alipurduar you may travel either via NH 31C or SH 12 towards Assam till you reach Kamakhyaguri. From Kamakhyaguri, Rasikbil is just 6 kms away.
