South Sikkim

This is perhaps the least visited district in Sikkim. Serene and nostalgic; a district having unique countryside landscape dotted with Sikkimese and Lepcha villages on the rolling valleys. The endless waves of agricultural field on the terraced slopes intercepted by streams and patch forests are the landmark of South Sikkim.

Simple lives of religious villagers, some of the oldest monasteries, great scenic beauties and tranquility of the region make it an integral part in Sikkim for tourism perspective. South Sikkim can be an ideal location for travelers looking for new destinations, which are yet to be captured by the typical modern tourism concepts.

Tourism infrastructures, although not comparable with star category facilities available in modern towns, are fast developing with basic and comfortable amenities. Namchi being the district head quarter of is an important trade center. The most important tourism destination is Ravangla. Famous for its peaceful environment and prominent view of snow-capped mountains of Khanchenjungha, Ravangla is well connected by motorable road from Gangtok (65 kms) Namchi (32kms) and from Siliguri (120kms).

Today, South Sikkim has grown into an ideal destination for short trekking and hitchhiking. A large number of western tourists who visits the place testify to that. It also offers possibilities for adventure sport lovers- in the form of rafting and kayaking in the waters of Teesta and Rangeet. These and a flourishing tourism industry make South Sikkim an exciting new destination for tourists especially those with a disposable income.

Ravangla

is the most prominent destination. It is a small town about 70 km from Gangtok almost midway between Gangtok and Pelling. There are good accommodation options for tourists at Ravangla.

Namchi

The district headquarter has become a prominent tourist destination. The Samdruptse statue on a hilltop and Chardham temples makes helps combine pilgrimage with nature tourism.

Temi Tea Garden

This is the only tea garden in Sikkim. The Temi-Tarku Tehsil in South Sikkim offers beautiful landscape and can be visited by tourists for overnight stay as well as a day visit.

Kewzing Village

A village between Legship and Ravangla has come into prominence as one of the best village tourism destinations in South Sikkim

Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary

A Wildlife Sanctuary in the northern corner of the District. It is located close to the Tendong hill.

Borong Village

This is a small village near Ravangla. The Ralong monastery is also nearby. The Borong mountain resort is a nice resort located here.
