Bara Mangwa

Bara Mangwa is a small village close to Tista Bazar in Darjeeling District of West Bengal. The Village came into the tourism map after some local villagers came up with a project for farming and allied activity named Bara Mangwa Farm House. The village is located in the Takdah block and Takling 1 Panchayat.

Getting There

As you travel from Bagdogra through the National Highway 31A connecting Sikkim with Bengal with Tista on your left, you will soon reach Tista Bazar. This is an important junction. The road to the right goes up to Kalimpong, the road to the left is known as Peshok road which goes to Darjeeling and the road ahead will take you to Sikkim.

Just before the Peshok road a small road climbs up on the left through the hills. The steep climb of about 8 kilometres will take you to Bara Mangwa.

Sight Seeing

Bara Mangwa is surrounded by a number of interesting tourist destinations which can be visited as part of a day tour.

Tinchule, another village tourism destination, with its Sunrise point is just 9 kms away. You can visit the Peshok and Lopchu Tea Garden at a distance of 15 kms. The confluence of Tista and Rangit rivers is about 8 kms and the Tista Rangit view point on the Peshok road is another 4 kms.

The vantage location of Bara Mangwa between Darjeeling and Kalimpong makes both towns easily accessible from here. Kalimpong town is 21 kms and takes about 40 minutes to reach. Darjeeling is 40 kms and an hour and half away.

Within the village you can soak in the beauty of a tranquil hill station which has remained unchanged through the centuries. Electricity has not reached the village yet. In the evening have a candle light dinner with the twinkling lights of Kalimpong just across the hill.
