As the name suggests, Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary is the oldest sanctuary of Assam with hot springs and waterfalls. The wildlife sanctuary is located in Karbi Anglong district (neighbor of Golaghat district) of Assam about 25 kilometers drive from Golaghat and 65 kilometers drive from Kaziranga National Park. The sanctuary is surrounded by sister sanctuary Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary. The park is inhabited by various species of trees, shrubs, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. Some prominent animal species of Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary are Tiger, Gaur, Asian elephant, sambar, barking deer, slow Loris, hoolock gibbon, leopard, clouded leopard, leopard cat, jungle cat, sambar, capped langur, pig tailed macaque, rhesus macaque, Chinese pangolin, civet, Indian fox, mongoose etc. Some important bird species are red jungle fowl, Kaleej pheasant, green pigeon, kingfisher, woodpecker, barbet, owl, brown fish owl, green imperial pigeon, racket tailed drongo, myna, jungle myna, hill myna, black hooded oriole, dove, drongo, bulbul, minivet, eagle, etc. Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary is also the home of 51 rare species of orchids. The best season to visit Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary is from October to April.
