Maya Bundar

Maya Bundar is a thumb-like terrain jutting out into the sea from the mainland. This remarkable island can be traced in the northern part of Middle Andaman district of Andaman Archipelago. It is the administrative headquarter of North and Middle Andaman District and also the second largest tehsil of Andaman. Tourists are attracted to this place for its beautiful beaches and mangrove creeks. Karmatang Beach and Avis Island are favorite tourist spots. Karmatang Beach offers a provision for water sports like snorkeling, steamer ride and boating. It transforms to turtle nesting ground from December to January. With the exception of tourist spots, Maya Bundar is celebrated for its noteworthy population of Burmese and Bangladeshi. Maya Bandar is 230 kilometers and 8-9 hours road drive (about 120 kilometers) and sea route journey from Port Blair. Rangat is 70 kilometers south of Maya Bundar.

Karmatang Beach

Karmatang Beach is a peerless beach of Maya Banadar. It is 12 kilometers from Maya Bandar. Crystal clear water and prolific collection of coral are some unique features of Maya Bandar. Steamer ride services to mangrove creeks are functional from here. There are other beaches in Maya Bandar but Karmatang has no match. Karmatang is also a turtle nesting ground from December to February.

Avis Island

Avis Island is an alluring island 20 minutes boat ride from Maya Bandar. It is a small island dotted with palm and coconut trees. They also call it Coconut Island. Avis has a mini beach and a sea of corals. Avis Island is an ideal picnic spot.

Getting There

Maya Bandar is 230 kilometers and 8-9 hours road drive from Port Blair. National Highway 223 connects Maya Bandar to Port Blair.
