Established on 30th December, 1986, the Mouling National Park covering an area of 433 sqkm, is spread over the Upper Siang district and parts of West Siang and East Siang. The mountainous area is spread between an altitude of 750 mtrs to 3064 mtrs. The Mouling National Park is named after the nearest hill known as Mouling Peak. ‘Mouling’ literally means ‘red poison or red blood’, which is actually the red extract of a species of tree that is found there.

The area of Mouling National park and its surroundings are referred to as ‘the state’s cradle of biodiversity’ for the colligation of remote natural beauty and the flora and fauna. The scenic beauty of the dense evergreen forest against the backdrop of the snow clad mountainous ranges fills one with zeal.

The varied altitude leads to varying temperature which in the lower altitude is between 15 to 35 Centigrade and at higher altitude 5 to 15 Centigrade, snowfall is also common during winter months in higher altitudes. The overall weather is humid and witness heavy rainfall especially during June to September period.

Getting Around

The nearest towns are Along which is 130 kms away from Mouling National Park and Pasighat, which is at a distance of 185 kms. The cragged roads make it difficult for people to travel and reach, though the park and its surrounding is an adventurous spot to try out trekking and hiking. The National park is guarded by river Siyom in the west and river Siyang in the east, which are great places for anglers.

Flora and Fauna

Especially famous for the goat antelopes, one can also spot red pandas, goral, leopard, tiger, barking deer, takin and many more animal species in Mouling National Park. About 114 species of birds have been spotted in the park. Part of the National Park still remains virgin due to its inaccessibility. But the two extreme ranges are Ramsing, accessible through Bomdo village, and the Jengging range, accessible through Lissing village.
