Red Skin and Jolly Buoy Islands

Red Skin Island and Jolly Buoy Island come under Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. Both are uninhabited islands open for tourists for about 6 months in a year. Red Skin Island along with Jolly Buoy Island boasts rich marine life which has lead to the declaration of the area as a Marine National Park. 

Red Skin Island has huge concentration of coral reefs and crocodile population. It is sometimes an alternative for Jolly Buoy Island when high tides prevail in the latter. Red Skin Island, Hobday Island, Boat Island, Jolly Buoy Island and Mary Island are within short distance from each other. Red Skin Island has narrow beaches and snorkeling is a good option here.

Jolly Buoy Island falls under Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. It is a picturesque island with spacious sandy beach decorated with thick forests. The azure water surrounding the accessible beach is rich in corals and sea weeds. They can be closely observed (without getting wet) through glass bottom boats abundantly available on the coast. Jolly Buoy is the best place for a snorkeling and scuba diving. The clear blue water near the shore and the corals inside are absolutely amazing when one ventures to the water by oneself. When one walks on the white sand under the water one gets to see the sea anemones moving their soft jelly like fingers and the tiny bright red and white stripped clown fish swimming around and hiding under them. It is so colorful that one gets to feel so many corals of different colours, hues, textures, shapes, patterns and nature. Andaman Islands. No dress change provision is available on Jolly Buoy as it is uninhabited by humans. Jolly Buoy Island is no plastic zone. One cannot use or throw plastic materials on the eco-friendly coast. Jolly Buoy Island can be best reached through Wandoor Beach.

Getting There

Wandoor Beach is 40 minutes drive from the main city of Port Blair. From Wandoor regular boats take tourists to these islands.
